Homes in Whitemarsh

Postwar streets,
old villages.

Whitemarsh is mostly a post World War II suburb that filled in between older villages. Most homes are owner-occupied and single homes are the majority, though a real share of households live in apartment buildings.

01
Out from the pikes

Postwar houses spread out from Ridge and Germantown Pikes, then reached Flourtown Road in the 1960s and 1970s. Tell us the floors and bathrooms so we book the right amount of time.

02
Newer builds

More than 600 homes went up from the late 1980s through the 1990s, and a good number date from 2000 or later. Newer often means more bathrooms, so list them all.

03
Big lots, steep hills

The Barren Hill and Miquon slopes and the large lots toward Fort Washington and Ambler stayed open longest, and new homes have gone up there since the 1990s. Long driveway? Tell us where to park.

04
Farms and estates

Whitemarsh still holds more farmland and estates than any township around it. A big house takes longer, so a first visit usually runs long. Mention outbuildings or a guest suite if they’re part of it.

Parking + access

Odd year, even year:
know your side.

In a real snow, cars come off the street.
No driveway? Your house number picks the side.

Snow means off-street

Once snow reaches 3 to 4 inches and needs plowing, the township code wants every car off the street. Without off-street parking, cars go on the even-numbered side in even years and the odd-numbered side in odd years. Tell us where our car can go.

Two train lines

The Lansdale/Doylestown line stops in Fort Washington, at 7299 Station Avenue. Along the Schuylkill, the Manayunk/Norristown line stops at Miquon and Spring Mill.

Leaf piles at the curb

In fall, leaves go in loose piles at the curb and Public Works tries to reach each street about once a week. If piles are out on cleaning day, tell us where to pull over.

Put this in your booking notes

  • Driveway length and where to park
  • Even or odd side if it snows
  • Which door to use
  • Floors, bathrooms and any guest suite
  • Building rules for apartments
  • Pets, and where they’ll be

Local facts on this page: U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024, Whitemarsh Township, Philadelphia Area Archives (University of Pennsylvania), finding aid for the Historical Society of Fort Washington, SEPTA, Whitemarsh Township Public Works.

Is Lafayette Hill part of Whitemarsh Township?

Yes. Lafayette Hill is one of the villages inside Whitemarsh, and the township offices are on Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill, 19444. The area was called Marble Hill until it was renamed in 1883. Barren Hill, Spring Mill and Miquon are Whitemarsh villages too. We clean all of them, so just book with your street address.

Is Plymouth Meeting in Whitemarsh or Plymouth Township?

Both. Plymouth Meeting is one of the oldest settlements around here, settled as early as 1686, and part of it lies in Plymouth Township. The rest is a Whitemarsh village. So a Plymouth Meeting address can sit on either side of the township line. We clean on both sides, and the booking form only needs your street address.

Is a Fort Washington address in Whitemarsh or Upper Dublin?

It could be either. Fort Washington is now split between Upper Dublin and Whitemarsh townships. The village grew up where the railroad crossed Bethlehem Pike and got its name in 1878, and its station is on the Lansdale/Doylestown line. Whichever side of the line your home is on, we clean it.

Where do cleaners park when it snows?

Once snow reaches 3 to 4 inches and needs plowing, the township code requires every car to be off the street. Without a driveway, cars use the even-numbered side in even years and the odd-numbered side in odd years. Leave room in your driveway or tell us in your notes where our car can go, or we’ll move the visit.

Do you clean apartments and newer homes?

Yes. A real share of Whitemarsh homes are in apartment buildings, and more than 600 new homes were added from the late 1980s through the 1990s. For a move-in or move-out clean, put the building’s entry and parking rules in your booking notes, and tell us whether the place will be empty.
