Homes in Swarthmore

Victorian, Shingle
and Colonial.

Swarthmore grew from the 1880s as commuter tracts on both sides of the railroad. Most homes predate 1960, and most are owner-occupied single houses.

01
Substantial houses

Victorian, Shingle style and Colonial houses, most of them substantial, line the borough’s streets. Count every floor and bathroom when you book, so we plan enough time.

02
Mid-century mix

A smattering of mid-20th-century houses sits among the older ones. Newer layouts often go faster, so tell us which kind of house you have.

03
Spare bedrooms

Plenty of homes here have four bedrooms or more. Guest rooms nobody uses can be skipped or rotated week to week. Just say which.

04
Apartments

A share of Swarthmore homes are in buildings of five units or more. Moving out of one? Add the entry, stairs and elevator details.

Parking + access

signs overnight.

Downtown Swarthmore runs on parking meters.
Some streets limit overnight parking.

Town center meters

Downtown meters run from 30 minutes to 12 hours, each marked with its limit, and are enforced 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. A long clean can outlast a short meter.

By the station

Swarthmore station sits between the campus and the town center, at 2 South Chester Road. Near the tracks? Tell us which side you’re on.

Overnight signs

The borough limits overnight street parking in some areas, marked with signs, and residents there get a permit at Borough Hall. If your street is signed, tell us where a car can wait.

Local facts on this page: U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024, Philadelphia magazine, Swarthmore Borough, SEPTA, Upper Darby Township.

Is Swarthmore part of Springfield Township?

Not since 1893. Until the end of the 1800s the area was a section of Springfield Township, known informally as Westdale, and the borough was incorporated on March 6, 1893. Its present boundaries date from 1931. We clean in the borough and in Springfield, so the booking form only needs your street address.

Do you clean the big older houses on the college-named streets?

Yes. Most Swarthmore streets carry college names, Harvard, Yale, Vassar and Haverford among them, and they’re lined with Victorian, Shingle style and Colonial houses, many of them substantial. Bigger houses take longer, so tell us the floors and bathrooms you want done. For a first visit, a deep clean is usually the right start.

Where do the cleaners park in downtown Swarthmore?

At a meter, in your driveway, or wherever you point us. Downtown meters run from 30 minutes to 12 hours and are enforced 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. A full clean can outlast a short meter, so mention any driveway space in your booking notes.

Do you clean apartments near the station and the college?

Yes. The station sits between the Swarthmore College campus and the town center, and the tract the college sold in 1891 holds today’s business district. Homes and apartments on both sides of the tracks are in our area. Moving out of a unit near campus? Book a move-out clean and add the building’s entry details.
